Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says he regrets not coming out Sunday for the national anthem at Chicago's Soldier Field.
In a statement, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback says it affected him so much, he wasn't able to sleep.
Roethlisberger says the idea "was to be unified as a team when so much attention is paid to things dividing our country."
But now, Roethlisberger says he wishes they would have approached things differently.
He adds, the anthem is a "tribute to those who commit to serve and protect our country, current and past, especially the ones that made the ultimate sacrifice."
