Nathan MacKinnon had a goal & an assist and Darcy Kuemper made 22 saves as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 on Sunday night at Amalie Arena to clinch their third Stanley Cup in franchise history.

After the game, defenseman Cale Makar was awarded the Conn Smythe Award for the MVP of the playoffs.

The Lightning wanted another fast start in Game 6 and they got one, led by the captain.

Following a Makar turnover in the Colorado zone, Steven Stamkos found the loose puck and slid one through the five-hole of Kuemper to put Tampa Bay ahead 1-0 just 3:48 into the game.

It was a very competitive first twenty minutes with the Lightning maintaining their one-goal lead, and outshooting the Avalanche 10-8.

But it didn't take Colorado long to find the equalizer in the 2nd.

MacKinnon fired a one-timer from the left faceoff circle that beat Andrei Vasilevskiy to tie the game at 1:54.

The Avalanche's best player also played a part in the game-winning goal as well.

MacKinnon had the primary assist on Artturi Lehkonen's goal at 12:28 that proved to be the Stanley Cup clincher.

Colorado gave Tampa Bay a taste of their own medicine in the final twenty minutes, giving up only four shots to the Lightning in the period.

The best chance for the Bolts came on a 2-on-1 with Ondrej Palat & Nikita Kucherov but Kuemper slid across to make the save & the Lightning just could not find the equalizer.

Vasilevskiy had another solid game in net for Tampa Bay, stopping 28 of the 30 shots he saw on the evening.

The Lightning had one heck of a run, going to their third consecutive Stanley Cup Final.

Unfortunately this time, they came up two wins short.

They will most certainly be back and vying for a third cup in four years.

See you there.
