Rays Drop Opener In Toronto

The Toronto Blue Jays (43-33) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (40-35) 4-1 on Thursday night at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The Blue Jays got a pair of two-run homers to account for their offense. Teoscar Hernandez gave the Blue Jays an early 2-0 lead with his shot in the second, before Isaac Paredes hit his eleventh homer in the fourth. Unfortunately that solo shot would be the only offense the Rays would get, and the Blue Jays pulled away with a two-run blast from Santiago Espinal in the seventh inning that made it 4-1.

After Matt Wisler pitched a scoreless first inning, Ryan Yarbrough (0-4, 5.82) got the bulk work and was decent. He finished his night pitching five and one-third innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits while striking out none and walking one.

The Rays now look to bounce back in the second game of the five game series on Friday afternoon. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 3:07 PM - pregame coverage begins with the Inside Pitch hosted by Pat Donovan and Aaron Jacobson at 2:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
