Rays Drop Out Of Wild Card Field With Loss To Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles (59-53) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (58-53) 10-3 on Friday night at Tropicana Field. The win sends Baltimore ahead of the Rays for the third and final wild card spot in the AL race. It is the first time the Rays have not been in a wild card spot since July 4.

Adley Rutschman homered in the first, and the Orioles built on from there. They added one in the second, one in the fifth and four in the sixth to build a 7-0 lead before the Rays got on the board.

The Rays got a two-run home run from Randy Arozarena in the sixth and a RBI double from Taylor Walls in the seventh to account for their only offense. The Orioles finished the night outhitting the Rays 19-5.

Corey Kluber (7-7, 4.40) allowed seven earned runs on ten hits in five and two-thirds inning of work.

The Rays now look to bounce back and even the three game series with the Orioles on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your home of the Rays.
