A former Florida State University student accused of killing a Martin County couple in their garage in 2016 and then chewed on one victimโs face is not guilty by reason of insanity.
The prosecution, defense and judge have all agreed to the deal.
Austin Harrouff was set to go on trial today without a jury.
Before Judge Sherwood Bauer ordered Harrouff be sent to a secure mental health treatment facility, family members of Michelle Mishcon and John Stevens gave their impact statements calling him a "first class scumbag" and "a disgusting human with a rancid soul."
Harrouff will remain in that facility until he is deemed no longer a danger to himself or others.
