(Los Angeles, CA) -- L.A. Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani's historic 50-50 ball hit in Miami against the Marlins has been sold at auction for $4.392 million.
It's the highest price paid for any sports ball sold in history.
The fan who says he caught the ball, sold it through Goldin Auctions. However, there is an ongoing legal dispute over who actually is the rightful owner of the ball that began prior to its sale.
“Shohei Ohtani made history with this baseball, and now, with the highest sale price for any ball ever sold, this legendary piece of sports memorabilia has made history again,” said Ken Goldin, found and CEO of Goldin.
Ohtani hit the ball for a home run in Miami last month, becoming the first player in major league history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season.
The Dodgers reportedly offered the fan who declared ownership $300 thousand for it on the spot, but he said no.
The identity of the buyer has not been revealed.
