Florida’s six-week abortion ban continues one year after its implementation and OBGYN Dr. Cherise Felix with Planned Parenthood says many women and men are changing their family planning.
She says when they come in for care, many women aren't sure when and if they got pregnant.
As a result, Dr. Felix also says a lot of younger couples are seeking permanent sterilization because access to abortion care is so limited and an accidental pregnancy is so stressful.
Florida's Health Care Administration says there have been 12,000 fewer abortions over the past year.
In November, Florida voters failed to pass an amendment that would have limited government interference into abortion access.
The vote was close to the 60% threshold with 57% of voters supporting Amendment 4.
The anniversary of Florida’s abortion ban is occurring the day before Florida’s Legislature is scheduled to adjourn for the year.
