Marlins Fall Short Late

It was a great start for the Marlins that held a five run lead after the first inning, thanks to a Jazz Chisholm's grand slam.

Then the bats went cold as the Pirates at one point retired 13 of 14 batters. That's what left the door open for the Pirates to chip away at the five run deficit. It was starting to look like the Marlins were about to pick up that first win, but that's when Rowdy Tellez crushed a three-run homerun in the top of the seventh. The 425 foot homer made the score 7-6 taking the lead away from the Marlins.

However, the game turned quickly as Nick Gordon smashed a 407 foot pinch-hit solo homerun in the bottom of the ninth to force a 10th inning. The momentum was short lived as the Marlins allowed two run in the 10th, and wasn't able to bring in a run.

The season continues tomorrow as the Los Angeles Angels come to loanDepot Park for a three game series, before the Marlins go on the road. Listen to the start of that series on Fox Sports 940 or locally on the iHeartRadio App with pregame coverage starting at 6:10 p.m.
