Marlins Late Rally Falls Flat

The Yankees took the second game of the three game series in New York, but the Marlins showed life with a really in the seventh-inning that needed at least one more run.

Marlins pitcher A.J. Puk pitched well, but struggled with his efficiency. Puk walked five batters in 4.2 innings before being relieved in the fifth by Sixto Sanchez. Despite the walks and 98 pitches, Puk only allowed two earned runs. Sanchez gave up one run in the in the fifth-inning.

Then the Fish had a chance late. In the seventh-inning, with the bases loaded, pinch hitter Jesus Sanchez grounded out to first scoring Josh Bell from third. Next, the Marlins would send in Nick Gordon to pinch hit for Emmanuel Rivera. Gordon put up a sacrifice fly ball to left field that brought Jazz Chisholm across home plate making the score 3-2. That would be the closest the Marlins would get the rest of the way.

The Marlins will try to avoid the sweep Wednesday night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m., and coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 940am and locally on the iHeartRadio App.
