Marlins Avoid Sweep In New York

The Miami Marlins beat the New York Yankees 5-2 to avoid being swept.

The tone was set by lefty pitcher Ryan Weathers. Weathers controlled the Yankees offense going five-innings, allowing only three hits and picked up his first win as a Marlin. Offensively for the Marlins, the bulk of the load was the birthday boy Jake Burger, who smashed a 425 foot three-run homerun in the third-inning. It wasn't just Burger and Weathers that won the game. Defensively, the Fish played error free baseball. The bullpen also played well going four-innings, allowing two runs and Tanner Scott picking up the save.

The Marlins are off on Thursday, but it doesn't get any easier as the division leading Atlanta Braves come to loanDepot Park to start a three game weekend series. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:40 p.m. on Fox Sports 940am, or locally on the iHeartRadio App.
