Fish Flounder In Ninth

The Miami Marlins went the distance against the Atlanta Braves, but lost 9-7.

The season started with a number of injuries the the pitching staff, and now early on it looks the the injury bug is spreading to the rest of the team. Infielder Jake Burger has been playing well to start the season, but left the game early after hurting his oblique. Later in the game shortstop Vidal Brujan hurt is leg while rounding second base. The extent to the injuries are unknown at this time, but no matter how quickly they can come back the team's depth will definitely take a hit.

The Marlins have been playing better as of late, but the late inning woes continued Sunday. With Miami down 5-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth-inning. Jazz Chisholm and Bryan De La Cruz were able to bring home two runs in the inning to keep the pace with the Braves offense. Then in the bottom the sixth-inning Jesus Sanchez came up with a game tying single; which was followed by Nick Gordan's two-run homer to take the lead at 7-5.

The Braves Marcel Ozuna batted in one run in the seventh to pull within a run, but Andrew Nardi would strikeout the side in the eighth to set up Tanner Scott for the save.

With one runner on and two outs Ozuna came to the plate in the ninth, and the former Marlin capped his day with a two-run bomb that took the lead for the Braves at 9-7. After that the Marlins went down in order to end the game.

The Marlins will have a chance to bounce back against the San Francisco Giants Monday night at loanDepot Park. First pitch is at 6:40 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:10 p.m. on Fox Sports 940am, or locally on the iHeartRadio App.
