Elderly Driver Allegedly Runs Over Sunbather's Head On Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach, FL - A 71-year-old New York woman is recovering after an 84-year-old driver allegedly ran over her head while she was sunbathing on Daytona Beach.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday near the Silver Beach Avenue beach ramp, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office.

The victim was seated in a beach chair behind a parked Chevrolet Colorado when the driver, an 84-year-old woman from DeLeon Springs, began to reverse out of the parking spot.

The driver then made an immediate right turn toward the beach exit, allegedly failing to see the sunbather, and struck her with the truck's right rear tire, which then ran over her head.

Witnesses alerted the driver, who was reportedly unaware she had hit someone.

The victim was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with head injuries and is in stable condition.

Authorities noted that the driver exhibited no signs of impairment and has not been charged.

This incident highlights the potential dangers of vehicular access on popular beach areas like Daytona Beach, where vehicles are permitted to drive and park.

Beachgoers are advised to remain vigilant, and drivers should exercise caution to prevent such accidents.
