#1 Alabama Holds Off #11 Florida

The top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0, 1-0) knocked off the Florida Gators (2-1, 0-1) 31-29 on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville.

Alabama built a 21-3 lead in the first quarter, but Florida did not go down without a fight. Emory Jones ran in a five-yard touchdown late in the third quarter to pull the Gators within 28-23 heading into the fourth.

After the Crimson Tide got a field goal midway through the third period to take an eight point lead, Florida was able to get a touchdown with 3:10 to go from Dameon Pierce to pull within 31-29. However, Alabama stopped the two-point try to hold on to a win.

Florida played without dynamic backup quarterback Anthony Richardson, who coach Dan Mullen said was being held out as a precaution due to a strained right hamstring. Emory Jones went 188-for-2 with 195 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. Malik Davis set the pace for the Gators running game, rushing for a team best 86 yards as Florida outgained Alabama 245-91 on the ground.

The Gators will look to bounce back next Saturday when they host the Tennessee Volunteers. Kickoff between the Gators and Tennessee is scheduled for 7:00 PM on September 25th in Gainesville.
