Former NFL receiver Reche Caldwell was fatally shot Saturday night in Tampa, Florida.
According to his girlfriend, Caldwell was "ambushed" by people trying to rob him.
He was shot in the chest and leg and died on the way to the hospital.
The 41-year-old played at Tampa's Jefferson High School before playing for the Gators, before playing in the NFL from 2002-2007 for the Chargers, Patriots, and Redskins.
Caldwell played his first four seasons with the Chargers and one each with the Patriots and Redskins.
He's had legal issues since retiring, including arrests for illegal gambling, drug possession, and health care fraud.
