The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame in yesterdayβs College Football Playoff National Championship Game and Dan is mystified by Ohio State fans that are still hung up on their loss to Michigan back in December. With the road to a title expanded to 12 teams, and possibly more in the future, a single loss in the regular season just doesnβt hold the same weight. The loser of the biggest rivalry game in college football was effectively eliminated from contention until the CFP was expanded, but now itβs just another game.
Dan Patrick: βIf you said to Ohio State fans, βYouβre going to lose again to Michigan next year but youβre going to play for the National Championship,β you have to play for a National Championship...Because it used to be, if you lost that game, you werenβt playing for a National Championship; that was the importance of it. Now with the 12-team playoff, 14-team playoff, 16-team playoff, OK, you lose bragging rights there but man, that National Title, thatβll cure everything."
