The new CBA in the NBA contains a “second apron” of limits for teams spending above the salary cap with specific restrictions on draft picks and flexibility on trades for franchises that spend too much. It’s all very complicated so Dan explains the basics and how it’s already affecting teams like the Nuggets and Celtics.
Dan Patrick: “This is what’s happening with this second apron. You got a five-year window, you want to spend over it, OK, after that it’s going to cost you your draft picks; they’ll drop down to number 30. I know, it’s complicated but, you know, I think what they’re trying to do is maybe collude to let’s keep these salaries under a certain umbrella. Let’s not get crazy with all of this.”
